Spread your wings and do a thousand things you’ve never done before with Broadway’s feistiest flower girl! Directed by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher, My Fair Lady will host a riveting round of shows at the Steven Tanger Center from January 26th till the 28th.
Our story begins with Eliza Doolittle–a Cockney girl with dreams of the high life–selling flowers in the streets of Edwardian London. She then crosses paths with the abrasive Professor Higgins, who, appalled by the poor lass’ manner of speech, takes on the challenge of mentoring her into upper-class shape. Day in and day out, Eliza practices her phonetics, bonding closer with the professor and his colleague, Colonel Pickering. Soon, the embassy ball is upon them, and with it, the final test for our former guttersnipe. Will she pass with flying colors? Or will she find herself a fish out of water amongst the ball’s elites?
My Fair Lady tells a timeless tale of transformation, class, and gender politics in three hours of exquisitely outfitted dance numbers swirling to the most beautiful renditions of Lerner and Loewe’s songs, such as “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly.”
Madeline Powell, in her national tour debut, will star as our bubbly lady-in-training Eliza Doolittle. Opposite her is Jonathan Grunert, filling in the role of the arrogant linguistics professor Henry Higgins, as well as a charming cast of colorful characters:

“It’s a classic Cinderella story. I think audiences love seeing the transformation. I think they love seeing somebody learn about themselves and about the world and, that’s kind of what you get with the lines of the story,” actor Jonathan Grunert reflects on the musical’s enduring nature.
My Fair Lady’s first production opened in 1956 and closed in 1962. The story is based on Pygmalion, the 1913 play by Nobel Prize winner George Bernard Shaw. With a record-setting 2717 performances, the run became the highest-grossing Broadway show of the time. It won 6 out of 10 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.
The production’s roaring success set off a chain of domestic tours and revivals from the 1960s to the early 1990s. It also brought forth several overseas replicas, which include an acclaimed West End series and stints in Germany, France, and Australia. These shows often appeared in major award circuits such as the Tonys, Drama Desk, and Laurence Olivier.
In 1964, a film adaptation starring Audrey Hepburn as Eliza dominated the Academy Awards, winning in the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor categories, among others.

Twenty-five years since its last Broadway revival, My Fair Lady returned to the spotlight in 2018, helmed by American theater legend Bartlett Sher. It won three major awards (including a Tony) in Costume Design for Catherine Zuber’s work, in addition to three Outstanding Revival awards from the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle.
